Family winery in Lanciego, in Rioja Alavesa, with three generations behind it. The grandparents sold grapes; in the 80s the family built the winery and released Viña El Pago. Since 1993 it has been run by Eduardo Pérez de Azpillaga, who converted the estate to organic, certified since 2001.
They work 12 hectares with vines up to ninety years old, most of them bush-trained, with cover crops and home-made plant preparations. In the cellar they ferment with native yeasts, age in used French and American barrels and bottle unfined, unfiltered and without additives.
