The Xifré Penella family founded Matallonga in 2010 in Fulleda, in Les Garrigues, at 600 metres. The estate has ten hectares: about five of vines, with an old-vine Macabeo they decided not to uproot, and the rest olive grove and forest.
They farm dry with regenerative agriculture: spontaneous cover crops, no herbicides, sheep in winter and their own compost. They harvest by hand, ferment with native yeasts and age briefly in used barrel, with minimal sulphur dioxide. In 2025 they received the award for the best sustainable initiative in Catalan wine.
