Purrela is the project of Max Bentancour and Paula Sartier between the Sil and Bibei rivers, straddling Valdeorras and Ribeira Sacra: old bush-trained vines in O Bolo, on xabre, decomposed granite, and heroic plots of black slate in Quiroga. The name is the Galician word for bad wine, the aguapié.
They farm biodynamically, by the lunar calendar, and harvest by hand. They destem by hand and ferment with their own yeasts in clay jars from Padilla or in very used Galician oak barrels, for 7 to 10 months on lees. Unfiltered, unfined and with no added sulphur dioxide.
