Elisabetta Foradori, Giovanni Podini and winemaker Marco Tait founded Ampeleia in 2002 in the Colline Metallifere of the Alta Maremma, mineral-rich hills that have been mined since the Etruscans and are now a UNESCO Geopark.
Of the estate's 120 hectares, 35 are vines, spread between 200 and 550 metres and surrounded by chestnut trees, cork oaks and livestock. They have been certified organic since the 2012 vintage and biodynamic since 2013, and vinify each altitude separately, with native yeasts, in concrete, large cask or old barrel. Their emblematic grape is Alicante Nero, a Tuscan Garnacha. Unlitro, their one-litre red, was born in 2011.
